Most areas, including Oklahoma County, determine your property tax based on an ad valorem assessment of the property's value. As a property owner, you may get an unwanted surprise in the mail telling you your taxes are going up and sometimes it may seem as though your assessment is too high.


If you feel this has happened to you, then you need to act quickly. Some areas have very strict time limits for your appeals (Oklahoma County, you have 20 days). If you feel as though your property was overvalued, a professional, independent, third-party appraiser is often your best bet in proving your case. Obviously a home with 3,000 Sq.Ft. is worth more than one built with the same quality that is only 2,500 Sq.Ft.
